BSIS approved two-day (16 hours) firearm training for the Security Guard to apply for the Exposed Firearm Permit and work as an Armed Security Guard. Live Scan ($107) and State application fees ($80) are separate. The Loss Prevention Group (LPG) provides onsite live scan fingerprinting.  All fees are Non-Refundable.

Bring your own weapon or use ours. Students must provide their own ammunition (100 rounds) and hearing/eye protection. Ammunition is availabile for purchase at the San Leandro Rifle and Pistol Club, but NOT at the Concord Police Department Range. Due to possible repair or maintenance issues please call ahead to make sure the .357 or .45 are available if you are planning on using one of those weapons.

If using our firearm, students have the opportunity to qualify with one of the following calibers: 9 mm, .40, .45 or .38. Our .357 is only available for use at the Concord Police Range. Additional calibers may be added for $25, per caliber.

Day 1 of class is at our Oakland Training Facility, Day 2 is either at the San Leandro Rifle and Pistol Club or the Concord Police Department Range, depending on which range location you choose. Students must be 18 years of age or older, a United States Citizen or permanent legal resident (with proof), and be a licensed security guard or applicant for a license as security guard.

During the classroom training, students will learn moral and legal aspects of firearm use, firearm nomenclature, weapons handling and shooting fundamentals, and emergency procedures. During the range training, students will practice in safely handling and firing of duty weapons.  In addition to the required Course of Fire, students may participate in advanced training in the most realistic settings. LPG's training may include real-time video scenarios often referred to as "Shoot don't Shoot" training. The scenarios provide several possible outcomes branching off from the original scene based on the student's actions.

Students who fail to pass the written examination (Day 1) will be allowed to retake the class one time at no additional fee. Students who fail to pass the range qualification (Day 2) may take the two-day class again, one time, for a fee of $95.

The classroom training will take place at The Loss Prevention Group. 1814 Franklin Street, Ste 618. Oakland. The firearm range qualification will take place at the San Leandro Rifle and Pistol Club (3001 Davis Street, San Leandro) OR the Concord Police Range (5060 Avila Road, Concord).
