BSIS EXPOSED FIREARMS PERMIT CLASS

  • Two Day, 14 Hour BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit Class

NOTE: The $80 (increasing to $100 on July 1, 2018) Firearm Application fee payable to the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) is NOT included in the class fee, and must be paid by the student after successful completion of the BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit Class. The cost of ammunition is also NOT included in the class fee, and must be purchased by the student before Day 2 of the BSIS Exposed Firearms Class. Lastly,  a Firearm Assessment may be required by the BSIS before the Firearms Permit is issued. The assessment will evaluate whether an applicant possesses appropriate judgement, restraint, and self-control for the purpose of carrying and using a firearm during the course of his or her security guard duties. The assessment will begin on a date no later than July 1, 2018. The applicant shall bear the cost of the assessment once it is implemented. The cost, manner of completing the assessment, and exact start date, has not been published yet by the BSIS. 

Applicant's must also complete a new Live Scan Background Check for Security Guard with Firearms, which can be done with us during Day 1 of the class for $107 (you can purchase the class and Live Scan Background Check for Security Guard with Firearms here for $307, instead of this class only option). 

BSIS approved two-day (14 hours) firearm training for the Security Guard to apply for the Exposed Firearm Permit and work as an Armed Security Guard. Students must be 18 years of age or older, a United States Citizen or permanent legal resident (with proof), and be a licensed security guard or applicant for a license as security guard. All fees are Non-Refundable.

Bring your own weapon or use ours. Students must provide their own ammunition (100 rounds) and hearing/eye protection. Ammunition is availabile for purchase at the San Leandro Rifle and Pistol Club, but NOT at the Concord Police Association Range. Student's that wish to have more than one caliber on their permit, can qualify with additional calibers for a fee of $25 per additional caliber. Click here to add Additional Calibers to your order before checking out. Students will need to provide 100 rounds of ammuntion for each additional caliber.

If using our firearm, students have the opportunity to qualify with one of the following calibers: 9 mm, .40, .45 or .38. Our .357 is only available for use at the Concord Police Range. 

There are two training location options for the BSIS Exposed Firearm Permit Class. You will select your training location when you purchase the class online. The options are explained in detail below:

Option 1 (Tuesday & Wednesday) - The classroom training (Day 1) for the BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit Class will take place at our training facility (524 7th Street, Oakland). The Range Training & Qualification (Day 2) will take place at the San Leandro Rifle and Pistol Club (3001 Davis Street, San Leandro). 

Option 2 (Saturday & Sunday) - The classroom training (Day 1) for the BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit Class AND the Range Training & Qualification (Day 2) will take place at the Concord Police Association Range (5060 Avila Road, Concord).

CLASSES START AT 9AM - REGISTRATION IS AT 8:30AM

Students who fail to pass the written examination (Day 1) will be allowed to retake the class one time at no additional fee. Students who fail to pass the range qualification (Day 2) may take the two-day class again, one time, for a fee of $95.
